SPEED-MUX 10G is designed as a flexible 10 Gbit/s OTN aggregation module. This multiplexer supports various protocols like e.g. Fast/Gigabit Ethernet, STM-1/4/16, 2 and 4 Gigabit Fibre Channel, video signals etc. By using different mapping methods such as ODU0, ODU1, ODU2, ODUflex and GFP, signals are multiplexed in OTU-1 or STM-64 and transmitted via one or two XFP line port(s). The SPEED-MUX 10G is designed as a 3 slot module for operation within a SPEED-CARRIER 4.5U (Rev.B). The module can be mangaged and monitored via SPEED-NMS module.
SPEED-MUX 10G provides two XFP ports and therefore allows a 1+1 protection for an OTU-2 uplink. By using different ODU mapping hirachies, further applications can be added or dropped at remote locations. This features enables a central connection of remote locations via one shared OTU-2 transmission.
By a further SFP+ port on the SPEED-MUX 10G, protocols like 10G Ethernet, 8 Gbps Fibre Channel or STM-64 can be converted to OTU-2. Making the SPEED-MUX 10G an excellent access solution for high-datarate OTN networks.
By performing time division multiplexing (TDM) of several signals of low bandwidth into a signal of a bandwidth of 10Gbp, SPEED-MUX 10G provides an excellent capacity utilization of one single pair of fiber. As these aggregated services are transmitted by only one wavelenght. Assuming 80 available DWDM wavelengths, a capacity of up to 800Gbps can be realized. Thus data, voice, storage and video signals are tranmitted protocol transparent.
As a special feature of the SPEED-MUX 10G, all ten SFP ports of client side are either configurable as uplink or client ports. So it is possible, as an example to multiplex four STM-1 and one Gigabit Ethernet signals into OTU-1 (2.5Gbps), using an internal cross connect. SPEED-MUX 10G supports to aggregate this multiple OTU-1, in combination with further appliations into an OTU-2 connection. Hereby on optimum bandwidth utilization is achieved.
