DAC (Direct Attach Cable) and AOC (Active Optical Cable) cables as a cost-effective alternative for interconnecting your network components

Cisco, Intel, Extreme, Brocade, H3C, HP, Nortel, Avaya, Juniper, Huawei compatible cables (others on request). Different combinations with different manufacturer codes at the respective ends are possible.

DAC cable:

In addition to the two known standards for cabling, fiber optic patch cables or copper cables, there has been a third possibility for some time. Behind this is the use of a Twinax Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cable, which has a fixed transceiver module at each end. This cable has a maximum length of 10m.

In contrast to normal copper cables, a Twinax cable uses a different signal method, which transmits the signals faster (i.e. with a lower latency) and requires considerably
less current than an electrical signal via a copper cable. For example the latency
of SFP + DAC cables is about 50% below the latency of transmission over copper
cables. Furthermore only about 50% of the electrical power is required compared
with normal SFP + modules.

AOC cable:

Compared to DAC cables, AOC cables have a high-
er range and are more flexible and lighter than normal Cat.5/6 copper cables. In their connectors, they contain an E/O and O/E converter which con-
verts the electrical signal into an optical signal, transmits it via the single mode or multimode fiber and, at the line end, converts the signal back into an electrical signal. The distance can cover up to 100 m. Depending on the embodiment e.g. an AOC cable for QSFP modules consists of up to four lanes through which the full duplex signals can be transmitted. For CXP modules, 12 transmit and 12 receive channels are transmitted via an AOC cable.

The active optical cables (AOC) offer considerable cost advantages compared to conventional optical modules. The cables are electrically compliant with InfiniBand
* FDR / QDR / DDR, Ethernet (10, 40, 56, 100 Gbps), and other protocols.
