Diocese Eichstätt Chooses DWDM Solution From Pan Dacom Direkt

To connect the locations in Eichstätt and Munich, the Diocese Eichstätt (Germany) is relying on the SPEED-OTS-5000 system from Pan Dacom Direkt.

Germany, Eichstätt is following the trend of making its own IT landscape fit for the future with high-performance transmission technology. By means of the SPEED-OTS-5000 system for fiber-optic data transmission, Pan Dacom Direkt creates a possibility to mirror the Munich location to the Eichstätt location on a provided dark fiber line.

Here, additional requirements of the Diocese Eichstätt had to be taken into account: No less than a future-proof site networking with high bandwidth and low latency for the transmission of critical Ethernet applications had to be realized. In order to transmit further applications in the future, easy scalability and fast expansion of the system were taken into account during planning.

SPEED-MUX 200G with optional encryption

Right from the start, the Diocese Eichstätt was able to rely on the personal advice provided by Pan Dacom Direkt. In order to make optimal use of the existing fiber optic line, the choice quickly fell on a modern DWDM system in combination with the SPEED-MUX 200G. The Muxponder card has an optionally activatable AES 256 Bit Layer 1 encryption, which guarantees a high degree of security.

Fiber optic monitoring included

The system has been supplemented by SPEED-FIBER monitoring to enable immediate detection of faults or external influences on the optical fiber. And thanks to SPEED-PREAMP and SPEED-BOOSTER for signal amplification, it was possible to illuminate the approximately 134 kilometers of fiber optic line without any additional effort.

„We received expert and personal advice from Pan Dacom Direkt for the site networking via a WDM system. The SPEED-OTS-5000 system is the first choice for us, because it combines German security standards with a high scalability,“ said Dieter Wittmann, Team Leader IT Infrastructure Diocese Eichstätt KdöR. Additional applications can be realized costeffectively if higher bandwidth requirement arise in the coming years.

The Company

The Eichstätt Episcopal Ordinariate is the administrative center of the Diocese Eichstätt for more than 400,000 Catholics, located between Ingolstadt and Nuremberg and
between Neumarkt and Wemding. It supports the bishop in all administrative matters concerning the diocese.
