The modular rack system with 1 or 5 units (U) SPEED-CARRIER 5U-H and SPEED-CARRIER 1U-H (High Power) can be flexibly equipped with active and passive system cards according to customer requirements. All modules can be put into operation via the front side, are hot-swappable and exchangeable without affecting the remaining data traffic. The rack systems can be used to operate system cards with high bandwidths of up to 400 Gbit/s and AES 256 Layer 1 encryption. This makes the system ideal for DCI applications. The highlight of the 1U variant is its high packing density of up to 3,200 Gbit/s per U.
In both rack systems, an intelligent fan concept means that no ventilation distance to neighboring systems is required. Thus, up to 19 (or 9) slots can be equipped with high and low bit rate system cards as well as an NMS card. Due to the low installation depth and a flexible redundant power supply of 230 V AC or 48 V DC, the system can be used everywhere.
The Data Center Interconnect "Made in Germany"
Data transmission with data rates up to 400 Gbps, high availability through redundancy, fast expansion with new services and high security with AES 256 encryption are at the front of data center interconnections.
Through the use of transponder and muxponder cards, data rates of up to 25.6 Tbps can be transmitted via one optical fiber for data center coupling. The SPEED-OTS-5000 System is a modular multiprotocol WDM system with up to 400 Gbps per service for the realization of high bit rate, secure and scalable optical data center couplings.
Site Networking in meshed Networks via Dark Fiber Links
The use of low attenuation multiplexers and mux cards with optical switches as well as the combination of various services on a dark fiber are crucial for high cost reduction regarding leased line and managed service connections. For example it is possible to group together managed service connections on a dark fiber and data rates of up to 25.6 Tbps could be transmitted via a pair of optical fibers by using a DWDM-system consisting of transponder and muxponder cards. The SPEED-OTS-5000 system is a modular multi-protocol WDM system with up to 400 Gbps per service for the realization of high-speed optical networks.
Connection of external Locations to a Company Headquarters
By using a common dark fiber infrastructure, external locations with point-to-point connections as well as LAN and ring structures can be cost-effectively and safely connected to a central office.
Interconnection with Fiber Monitoring and 24x7 Live OTDR Monitoring
Additionaly to the high availability of services through redundancy concepts and the high level of security provided by AES 256 encryption, the SPEED-OTS-5000 system also monitors the dark fiber as a transport route between the sites. Through 24x7 live measurements of the optical fibers, changes to the route such as maintenance of the carrier, deterioration of the fiber or splice, fiber breaks, access to the fiber optic cable as well as conscious listening to the fiber optic cable are detected and automatically alerted.
The combination of the SPEED-FIBER MONITORING as a 24x7 OTDR live measuring system and optical sensors can be used, for example to detect opening of manholes, water level indicators and fiber manipulations very quickly with one-meter precision. As a result, note only manipulations can be detected, but also response times and recovery times of fiber breaks can be dramatically reduced.
10 Gbit Reach Extension
LAN and remote sites can be easily interconnected with 1 Gigabit Ethernet at distances up to 180km by use of conventional high power SFP modules. Changing the switching/routing hardware 10 Gigabit Ethernet, however, brings many challenges, as maximum rated optical budget of these SFP modules is restricted to 80km.
By use of compact and cost-optimized SPEED-OTS 5000 solution, existing 180 km routes with 10 Gigabit Ethernet can be achieved. For this purpose, a modular 1U rack fit with various optical amplifier modules and multi-protocol transponder cards is available, which can be easily, quickly and cost-effectively integrated into the existing connection.
DCI-Interconnection with Double Protection
Along with high data rates of up to 400 Gbits, secure data exchange with AES 256 encryption, low latency and simple operation, the hardware redundancy and hence highest possible availability in data center interconnections is the key factor. With the Double Protection system approach of the SPEED-OTS-5000 system, all potential single-point-of-failure elements of optical network are redundantly designed.
SPEED-CONTROL EMS is a browser-based element management system that is optimized for the SPEED-OTS-5000. It is a parental instance, where the environmental parameter of the integrated systems are centrally displayed and monitored.
The SPEED-CONTROL EMS Server will be provisioned as a virtual machine. The delivered virtual machine can be imported and launched from a virtualization host system.
The SPEED-MUX Muxponder Cards enable a direct aggregation of 1/10/40/100/200/400 Gigabit Ethernet, 4/8/16/32 Gigabit Fiber Channel, 5/10/14/25G InfiniBand and OTU-2,-3,-4 to 100 Gbps, 200 Gbps and 400 Gbps and thus offers the user the maximum flexibility for relevant applications.
The pluggable CFP and CFP2 line transceivers transmit 100 Gbps, 200 Gbps and 400 Gbps services via one DWDM channel. Therefore up to 64/96 DWDM channels can be realized for a transmission of up to 25.6 Tbps over only one optical fiber.
With the integrated AES 256 Bit Layer 1 encryption method, a hardware-based encryption with lowest latency and full data throughput is used. This enables a data transfer according to the highest security standards. Encryption is an option and can be activated via special additional license. The activation of the encryption can also be done retrospectively by a software update without replacing the existing system components.
The flagship SPEED-MUX 800G Muxponder Card can also be used as a dual 400G transponder card. This ensures investment protection for the user as part of future network expansions.
The SPEED transponder cards are compact 2, 4 or 6 channel transponder cards. Depending on the customer application and transponder card type, pluggable client interfaces are available for SFP, QSFP+, QSFP28 and QSFP-DD transceivers.
In CWDM and DWDM networks, they convert up to 2/4/6 channels to relevant CWDM and DWDM wavelengths. The multi rate feature supports almost all protocols:
Additionally the SPEED Transponder Cards with integrated 3R (Reshaping, Re-amplification, Retiming) and FEC (Forward Error Correction) function enable error-free transmission over longer distances. The integrated SNMP agent can send SNMP traps to a management system via Ethernet.
The use of amplifiers can increase the range of the optical transmission system. Depending on the distance to be overcome and existing intermediate locations, three amplifier variants (booster, inline, and pre-amp amplifiers) are available. All SPEED-OTS-5000 amplifier modules amplify up to 64 or 96 DWDM channels in the optical C-band on a fiber pair.
The protocol transparent amplification is independent of the application to be transmitted. The amplifiers can be monitored and configured locally via the Comand Line Interface (CLI), Telnet and WEB-interface or also remotely via the SPEED-NMS Management Card by using the SNMP standard and supported by the user friendly graphical user interface (GUI). An optional remote management via an in-band OSC channel is also available. All optical amplifiers meet the requirements of Laser Class 1M, so no laser safety officer is necessary.
The SPEED-NMS management card is the central access point of the SPEED-OTS-5000 series. The monitoring and configuration of the system can be performed via a Graphical User Interface, SNMP or per Command Line Interface.

The SPEED-WDM Series includes a variety of passive CWDM and DWDM modules with different numbers of channels. The SPEED-CWDM Series is available in 5, 8, 9 and 16 CWDM wavelengths per system card. The CWDM five and nine wavelengths multiplexers have a cascading port that allows them to be extended by another eight CWDM wavelengths without interruption of the running operation.
Through the use of DWDM modules, up to 64 or 96 DWDM channels can be transmitted over one fiber optic. For each channel, e.g. 400 Gbps application are switched - thus results in a total data rate of 25.6 Tbps per pair fiber optic.
With the help of our cascading concept it is possible to cascade 8 to 40 DWDM channels without interrupting already running services.
With DWDM band filters, DWDM bands with 8 DWDM channels each can be interconnected with lowest signal loss at intermediate locations.
The SPEED-Add&Drop multiplexers are available for CWDM or DWDM applications. Using Add&Drop multiplexers, it is possible to couple and decouple one or more wavelengths in a fiber in a dedicated manner without having to use a CWDM or DWDM multiplexer to extract all wavelengths.
Depending on customer requirements, we manufacture individual CWDM / DWDM modules with different wavelengths, connectors and port numbers for different housing types.
The dispersion compensation module SPEED-DCM compensates the propagation time differences of the different DWDM wavelengths in optical transmission systems. It is a purely passive device which can be equipped along the link for ranges from 20 km to 200 km, depending on the requirements. The dispersion compensation is totally protocol transparent.
The SPEED-SPLIT series enables live monitoring of all wavelengths via an external OSA (Optical Spectrum Analyzer) meter. For this, e.g. SPEED-SPLIT 97/03 provides 3% of the optical power and provides it for the analysis.
