When an upgrade of an existing data center link becomes necessary, it is in some ways similar to open heart surgery. Without a doubt, it is a deep intervention on the hardware-level. To leave nothing to chance, the RZV Data Center Volmarstein (Germany) relied on the service and system technology of Pan Dacom Direkt GmbH for the upgrade of its Ethernet and storage infrastructure.
More than 1,250 institutions from the health care sector and the public sector rely on the RZV. A fail-safe WDM solution from Pan Dacom Direkt has been in use here already for ten years. "In order to meet the general growth and the increased requirements for more bandwidth", says Klaus-Martin Fleck, responsible for the network infrastructure at RZV, "an upgrade of the line has recently become necessary".
Aggregation of 40G Ethernet and 32G Fibre Channel
Due to the excellent price-performance-ratio as well as the competent consulting, the data center operator chose Pan Dacom Direkt to implement several LAN and SAN services. In order to enable a multiservice aggregation of different services, starting with 1/10/40 Gigabit Ethernet and 32 Gigabit Fibre Channel, the choice fell on the powerful SPEED-MUX-200G. Thus, Pan Dacom Direkt integrated an existing CWDM infrastructure into an 8-channel DWDM superstructure. "The possibility of being able to activate layer 1 encryption at a later date if required was a decisive criterion for entrusting this project to Pan Dacom Direkt", says Mr. Fleck. Thus, the SPEED-OTS-5000 system has a powerful AES-256-bit encryption on hardware level.
